About us
My Gynae Foundation (MGF) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to raising awareness of gynaecology conditions, understanding their impact on women's health, and facilitating access to appropriate treatment.
My Gynae advocates for patients' rights and safety and supports women through their reproductive health journeys. We partner with hospitals and organisations with a CSR budget to subsidise the cost of reproductive health care, and where possible we facilitate access to funding for patients who have life-threatening gynaecological issues but cannot afford treatment.
The Foundation also serves as a support system and advocacy group for women suffering from the effects of fibroids, building a much-needed community for patients to network, share their experiences and compare notes.
Gynaecological issues — especially fibroids — are one of the most common reasons women of reproductive age present in hospitals in South West Nigeria.
Young, low-income women of colour are particularly and severely affected. Lack of awareness, fear of infertility and social stigma keep many suffering in silence.
The high incidence of these conditions severely impacts women's quality of life, work productivity, fertility and wellbeing.
Our Bloom by My Gynae initiative gives women access to simple, easy-to-understand information that empowers them to make informed choices about their health — helping them regain their lives, productivity, self-esteem, confidence, fertility and general wellness. It works through:
"Oyinkan's personal experience fuelled her desire to start My Gynae and to advocate for women navigating these conditions."
Oyinkan Ogundele — Founder & CEO
My Gynae's Founder and CEO, Oyinkan Ogundele, suffered the debilitating effects of multiple uterine fibroids for 12 years. Her symptoms were extreme and severe — heavy menstrual bleeding, a distended stomach, pelvic pain, frequent urination, and recurring anaemia often requiring blood transfusions.
After a 3rd open myomectomy (her 4th major surgery within 10 years), Oyinkan became free of multiple uterine fibroids in November 2018.
Through her advocacy work she met countless women presenting with reproductive health issues with similar symptoms — many misdiagnosed or under-diagnosed. She expanded the scope of My Gynae to cover as many reproductive health issues as possible, incorporating MGF in July 2020.
